Churchill Purses Readjusted Today Under New Racing Rule CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — For the first time since its inception, the new rule governing purse distribution, recently passed by the Kentucky State Racing Commission, affected purse values for tomorrows program at the Derby track. When races, carrying higher values, are cancelled and substitute events are carded for lesser purses, the difference in the days purse distribution is then added to the purses of races carried in the original book of conditions and which filled. Three races, listed in the conditions for the May 2 card, did not fill and cheaper substitutes replaced them. The ,900 difference in the days overall distribution then was equally divided on the purses for the Whisk Broom II. Purse, the Chicle Purse, the Kentucky Oaks and two claiming races. Each of these events received a purse boost of 80 and that sum is to go to the winner only; second, third and fourth money to remain the same as listed in the condition book.
