MAIHIGH improved his position steadily to the stretch, came willingly to take a short lead and lasted to withstand DON DEVITO. The latter, never far back but in the deepest going from the beginning, was in close quarters near the furlong pole, then closed fast, but could not overtake the winner, just missing. ERMELIA, forwardly placed from the start, held on determinedly in a good effort. PARIC0, away fast, weakened after showing early speed. CHATOYANT raced evenly without mishap. PROM DATE did not like the muddy track. SERENE ONE gave way after making the pace to the stretch. RED SKIPPER was never dangerous. LETITIA began sluggishly. Scratched— 21144 Happy Pat. 108. GRAND GAY went to the front early, shook off HY SPREAD after entering the stretch, then lasted to hold RED SPIRIT. The latter worked his way forward steadily, responded to strong handling during the drive and was getting to the winner at the finish. HY SPREAD weakened after engaging GRAND GAY to the stretch. ROCKWOOD BOY had no mishap. COUNTY BELLE was outrun. TURKEY FOOT could not keep up FANNIE MAC quit badly after racing forwardly placed to the half. BLACK FIRE, on the outside throughout, tired. BIG A., away very slowly, improved his position steadily to the stretch, responded to strong handling during the drive and was up in the last sixteenth. PERCIEVE engaged ELBEKAY until inside the stretch, reached the lead between calls near the finish, but could not hold the winner BENADDI lacked early speed, but finished fast. ENDTOWN, on the outside from the beginning, lost ground entering the stretch and finished resolutely when straightened up. JAY made a good bid when settled in the stretch, then faltered near the finish. PERFECT MISS had early speed. ELBEKAY assumed command early, made the pace to the last furlong, then gave way. RING NECK assumed command early, responded readily when roused for the stretch run and easily retained his advantage. BISHOP, away fast and never far back, came willingly when set down for the drive, but could not menace the winner, although easily best of the others. AYRAN, on the outside throughout, could not threaten the leaders when roused for the stretch run. SPEED BIRD raced wide and could not keep up. CHIMNEY BABE, away very poorly, was far back throughout. CHATTER MAID raced greenly. LADY BABETTE had brief speed. MISS TIGRESS was eliminated at the start. R0XIANNA bore out badly approaching the stretch and lost all chance. Overweight— Ayran, 1 pounds. The latter went to the front at once, made the pace until near the finish, then faltered and could not hold the winner. BIG BROTHER lacked early speed, but finished very fast. SANDSLINGER, far back early, closed determinedly under punishment. JIMPIN could not keep up. DIAMOND DICK faltered after racing prominently to the last furlong. ARTILLERIST had no excuse. HASHCAMP could not threaten. MATTY M. made the pace for three-quarters, then tired. SURIBACHI had early speed. QUATRE BLANC gave way after racing prominently to the stretch. BOWSTRING was never dangerous.
