Charles Jones Acquires Two Mares From Brann Starry Pomp and Flag Trick Have Been Brsd to Challedon LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 1. — Charles Jones, present master of nearby Bashford Manor Farm, announced the purchase of two excellently bred broodmares from W. L. Brann. Ira Drymon, well-known Lexington turfman, represented Jones in the transaction, terms of which were private. Jones acquired the mare, Starry Pomp, a daughter of Pompey and Bonnie Etoile, by Wrack, and the mare, Flag Trick, by Pennant and out of Trique, by Cudgel. Starry Pomp presently has a colt foal at heel and she was bred back to Challedon, while Flag Trick visited Challedons court this season and her foal is a full-brother to the stakes winner, Challenging. Jones, widely-known in sporting circles as the manager of the former lightweight champion boxer, Sammy Angott, plans some rather extensive operations at Bash-ford Manor and he may add to the breeding stock already quartered at the famous thoroughbred nursery. Bashford Manor, when operated by the late George J. Long, sent three Kentucky Derby winners to the post, Azra, 1892, Manual, 1899, and Sir Huon, victor in the 1906 renewal of the historic stake.
