Double Jay Doubtful Starter for Preakness PIMLICO, Baltimore. Md.. May 7. — Ridge wood Stables Double Jay today became a very doubtful starter in Saturdays one mile and three -sixteenths Preakness, following a conference between the colts co-owners, Jim Boines and Jim Tigani, and jockey Johnny Gilbert, who finished twelfth aboard Double Jay in last Saturdays Kentucky Derby. Gilbert is reported to have informed Boines and Tigani that Double Jay, off his actions during the Derby running, is not entirely sound. Gilbert was unable to designate the exact seat of the trouble, but expressed the opinion the colts indisposition is either in his knee or ankle. Boines and Tigani will have a veterinarian go over Double Jay later today, following which they will make a definite decision regarding the colts Preakness status. Gilbert also informed Double Jays owners that he would prefer not to ride the colt in the Preakness if he should be a starter.
