Bob Jones, Painter of Horses, Dies in Santa Barbara, Calif. SANTA ANITA, Arcadia, Calif., May 24. — Bob Jones, former prominent hotel owner of Santa Cruz, who has won wide fame as the, painter of horses during the past 15 years, died yesterday at his home in Santa Barbara. His widow, the former Miss Judie Holmes of Duarte, telegraphed friends here that interment will be at 10:30 Wednesday in the Monrovia cemetery. Jones, one time president of the California State Hotel Mens Association, took up painting as a hobby when he lost his fortune in the Insull crash and his health failed. One of his first commissions was doing Staretor,. winner of the 1941 Hollywood Derby, in oil. Other of his works include all the winners of the Santa Anita Handicap which hang in Eatons Santa Anita restaurant; the winners of the Champion Stakes, which are exhibited in the office of the California Breeders Association; a mural of Seabiscuit winning the 1940 Santa Anita Handicap for the Constance Hotel in Pasadena and other large murals at Bay Meadows. Jones was at work on Ace Admiral, last victor of the Santa Anita Maturity, at the time of his death.
