► MRS. ADA L. RICE— The Chicagoans Danada Capt. and Danada Red were winners of their respective races on yesterdays Lincoln Fields program. Dozen Three-Year-Olds Test Speed OF Skipper, Whirling Dough Entry Seen Lincoln Favorite Marsch Duo Has Formidable Opposition in Well sab and Saint Nicholas in Sprint WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 24. — Arrival from Churchill Downs of some 200 horses, many possessing better-than-average class, is glowingly reflected on the program tomorrow when the Lincoln Fields Racing Association offers what easily is the finest mid-week card of the Illinois season. Heading the bill is the Lady Broadcast Purse, a six-furlong sprint that has attracted some of the leading three-year-olds on the grounds. Three in the field of 12 are eligible for next Mondays 5,000 Peabody Memoi-ial, while others are using the dasli as a preliminary for other stakes engagements. The Peabody nominees are the Brown Hotel Stables Saint Nicholas and John Marschs likely duo of OY Skipper and Whirling Dough. Others are L. Brannons George Martis, a first-time starter; Dixie McKinleys Mr. Fox, Howard Wells Well-sab and Big Ping, who will run as an entry; Plymouth Stables Gold Eagle, Windsor Farms pair of Dawn o Peace and Mid-channel, Mrs. Emil Denemarks Thank You Sir and Mrs. S. Smiths Best Trick. Ol Skipper and Whirling Dough constitute a combine that probably will be favored if they both start. Neither has been seen under colors this season, but they displayed enough last year to prompt Marsch to name them for most of the three-year-old classics, including the Kentucky Derby. Trainer Howard Hoffman, however, was unable to have them ready for the exacting mile and one-quarter and has given them ample time to attain racing condition. Captured Woolf Memorial A handsome son of Occupation — Seaway, by Man o War or Skipper has shown his finest efforts over this course. Last year he finished third in the Joliet Stakes, and several days later came back to tie the track record here for five furlongs, :58%. He. was unable to continue with such notable speed when the scene shifted to Arlington Park, although managing to finish second in the Primer Stakes to Olympia. Upon returning here for the regular Washington Park meeting, he uncorked the top effort of his short career by dashing to a convincing victory in the George Woolf Memorial, and this time he reversed the tables on Olympia. He completed his campaign by finishing second in the Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap. Most of his training has been done in Kentucky, where he is reported to have drilled impressively. Whirling Dough, a royally bred son of Whirlaway — Cash Book, by Bull Dog, was believed to be the best youngster in the Marsch barn after he scored in his maiden voyage by five lengths over this track last year. However, he failed to improve as expected and spent the remainder of the season, for the most part, futilely chasing the crack youngsters that competed in this area. Probably his best performance was in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs when he set a bristling early pace before tiring in the stretch. He went the quarter in :22%, the half in :45%, and the three-quarters in the sensational time of 1:10 before paying the price for his early activity. Wellsab apparently is the most formidable of the pair that trainer Howard Wells will saddle. He is a stretch-running son of Alsab — Ginger W., by Coldstream, and has been out only once this year at Churchill Downs. He failed to show much speed, but has engaged in a number of lively morning tests since and can be expected to play a prominent role in the Lady Broadcast. On occasions last year he showed enough to earn nomination for the Kentucky Derby and Wells expects to have him ready for a number of Illinois stakes of the future. Saint Nicholas is a promising sort that is to carry J. Graham Browns silks in big events here this season. The son of Psychic Bid — Santa won three of his 14 starts last year and has started only once this season, that coming in an allowance race on Derby Day at the Louisville course. He closed well from a slow beginning, and at the finish was third in back of his stablemate, Dorsey, and Roundeleer.
