New Jersey Notes GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 24. Major Kay, a three-year-old colt, who races in the silks of Justine Goldman, was shipped to Garden State Park from New York to fill engagements here. Mrs. Mona McNaughton will condition the thoroughbred. Robert "Red" Howell, veteran rider, has checked in from Jamaica and will stay here for the remainder of the meeting. Apprentice rider Tom Baker, formerly with Blue Stone Farm and currently under contract to G. R. Watkins, arrived at Garden State Park from Havre de Grace. Wounded veterans from Tilton General and Valley Forge hospitals are enjoying the races at Garden State Park as the guests of the management. Almost daily, groups of convalescing soldiers are to be seen in the stands. The management has reserved a special section in the clubhouse for its guests from the military. Fifteen horses owned by Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords, arrived from Havre de Grace in care of Oscar White. Henry Clark, conditioner for the Christiana Stable, arrived at Garden State Park, from Maryland with a draft of four horses who will be campaigned at this point. . _____ Jockey M. A. Buxton has entered Mt. Sinai Hospital in Philadelphia for a complete check-up. The lad is expected to remain there for several days. Four horses in the care of Carl Hanford, trainer of a public stable, were vanned into Garden State Park today from Maryland. Hanford accompanied the shipment. For the entertainment of riders at Garden State Park, the management has installed a large television set in the jockey quarters. The little men no longer need make the trip to the roof of the stands to watch the days feature race. Now they may sit in their own quarters and observe all that happens on the racing strip. William Helis Mr. Ace, winner of the Harford Handicap during the Havre de Grace meeting, has been shipped to the Jobstown Farm whe.re he will be fired for ankle trouble. Trainer Don Yates has sold the contract he held on Joe Ivenson to trainer Daverne Emery. Tony Pedone, agent for Bobby Martin, was an arrival from New York. H. Hessey Miller, the cinder block king for suburban Philadelphia, yesterday reported the death of the yearling filly, Hessey Be Calm. The highly regarded maid was the daughter of Swiv and Be Calm. Bobanet Stables Radiate TJ. is the only recent addition to starter George Palmers schooling list, bringing to six the total now to be schooled. * - - ■
