Goodwin to Curtail His Thoroughbred Activities Part of String at Detroit Will Be Leased to Buckley and Locklear FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 28. Johnny Zoeller, trainer for the local division of Joseph A. Goodwins Stable of homebred thoroughbreds, headed by the 1948 Arlington Classic winner, Papa Red-bird, announced here today that a part of the unit is to be leased to Buckley and Locklear and those horses are to be conditioned by Cecil Locklear. Papa Redbird, who has a stakes engagement here on Monday and Wednesday, is to be shipped to New York in the near future for several important events, and the son of Balladier and Taj Bibl will be trained by W. J. "Buddy" Hirsch for his metropolitan campaign. Several other members of the local Goodwin string are to be sent to Patchen Wilkes Farm, Lexington, Ky. Zoeller, who has had unusually good success with the Kentucky-owned establishment, stated that the stable is being broken up on the advice of Mr. Goodwins physician, who ordered a curtailment of the Lexington turfmans racing and breeding activities. Goodwins health has not been good for some time.
