Royal Governor Carries Off Wilmington Handicap Honors DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 28. Charging through the stretch with a bid which was not to be denied, Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Royal Governor this afternoon accounted for the six-furlong Wilmington Handicap as Deleware Parks 32-day summer session commenced in successful fashion. The locally-owned Royal Governor, while accounting for his third victory of the year, lasted by a half length over P. A. Markeys Piet, who was five-cent favorite over the winner. Maine Chance Farms Royal Blood was a bit more than a length behind, while holding an advantage of a length and a half over Greentree Stables Blue Border. Royal Governor, under Pete McLean, turned in the fastest time for the race, his 1:10 being just one-fifth slower than the track standard. Royal Governor paid .70. Seasonable weather prevailed as Delaware Parks twelfth season of thoroughbred racing got under way and approximately 12,500 fans were on hand for the program.
