Epic Captures Kings Plate WOODBINE PARK, Toronto, Ont., May 28. Edward P. Taylors Epic, robust three-year-old son of Bunty Lawless, and Fairy Imp, had his name added to the lengthy list of Kings Plate winners when he arrived home a handy winner of the ninetieth running of the Ontario Jockey Club fixture here at Woodbine Park this afternoon. Confidently handled by jockey Chris Rogers, the winner registered by two and a quarter lengths at the direct expense of C. G. McCullaghs Speedy Irish, who enjoyed a margin of a half dozen lengths over G. B. Elliotts Pilsis, who took off third honors. The J. Stuart Stables Bunty Line raced into fourth position. Epic, making only his second start of his career, went to the post a close second choice to Speedy Irish and he completed the nine panels trip in 1:52, just a fifth of a second off the Plate distance record established by Last Mark, a year ago. The event was worth 0,810 to owner Taylor, who was presented with the trophy symbolic of the affair, by Viscount Alexander in the winners enclosure, after the test. Favored with perfect racing weather, a gathering of 45,000 fans, one of the largest ever to visit Woodbine Park, was on hand when the Kings Plate field, was called to the post. The story of this years Plate renewal is quickly and easily told. Bolaris moved into the clubhouse turn on top followed by Epic arid Filsis, with Speedy Irish last to get under way. Forcing the pace under stiff restraint, Rogers moved with Epic approaching the half-mile marker, slowly forged to the front, and after opening up a healthy lead, allowed the Taylor runner to step right along to the close, without need of punishment.
