Turf Course Runners in Limelight Name Field of Ten For Lincoln Event Coley Bay Engages Patmiboy, Ferry Pilot and Kendor Oyer Mile and Sixteenth Distance WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., June 2. — For the initial time of the current meeting, the Lincoln Fields Racing Association will offer as its feature a run over the infield turf course when ten ,000 claimers compete at a mile and one-sixteenth here tomorrow afternoon. The remainder of the program also has been turned over exclusively to platers, but there is enough variety to the card to make the sport entertaining. The headliner, booked as the sixth race, is for four-year-olds and upward and has drawn what appears to be an evenly-matched field, several of whom have shown a distinct preference for the grass sport. One, in particular, is Nate L. Raffelmans big seven-year-old gelding, Coley Bay, a veteran who has won numerous times in recent years through infield courses here and at Arlington Park. He is to be ridden by Jack Richard and gets in the test under 111 pounds. It will be his first start of the season in this area, but it is reported that he has trained well for his engagement, and it is also worthy of note that he is being dropped down into ,000 company for the first time in many moons. Others in Line-Up Others slated to start are Helen S. Reinemans Ferry Pilot, R. Whittakers Detroit Tiger, Mrs. J. A. Edmiston and R. Freemans Kendor, Ben Fogelsons Narcissus, Windsor Farms Poignancy, Charlie Towles Royalong, H. D. Maggios Patmiboy, Great Lake Stables Bold King and M. A. Wald-heims Fifteenth. Coley Bay has been lightly campaigned thus far this season. He was sent to Florida during the winter and later to Hot Springs, Ark., where he competed at Oaklawn Park. One of his best races of the year came on the turf course at Hialeah where he finished third against a band of 0,000-2,000 platers. Those in front of him were Anecdote and Green Bowler, while in his wake were such as Manchac, Compassion, Ver Vantes, Aralak, Bimont, Sublime, Leadership, Soldier Joe and Celophane n. A repetition of that performance could very easily make him the winner over his rivals in tomorrows race. Ferry Pilot must be regarded as one of the key contenders even though he has never raced over the grass course. In his seasonal bow here recently, the seven-year-old son of Marine — Flying Craig authoritatively whipped the daylights out of a field that included Darby Doodit, Evening Story, Narcissus, Tapestry, Hair Stylist and Taters. He was a ,250 claim during the Tropical Park meeting last winter and since has captured a quartet of races for the Chicago sportslady. Patmiboy performed over the turf yester-day and went quite well for as long as he lasted. He hooked up in a warm scuffle with In Fraganti for the early lead and when they matched stride for stride for the six furlongs it proved the undoing of both and they tired badly to pave the way for an easy score by the improved Cloy. It isnt likely that hell have any such as In Fraganti, a very capable grass competitor, to match his bristling speed, and there is a better than average chance that he will lead throughout. Kendor, a plater who last performed here in a sprint and finished fourth to Outskirts, War Ruler and Poignancy, should improve many pounds on the turf. As a matter of fact, the last time he won a race was last August through the infield course at this track and he -whipped a pretty useful field while competing against ,750 opposition. His race the other day indicated that he is nearing the peak of form. Poignancy is a rather shifty sort who is long overdue. The gelding finished third in each of a pair of sprints here on the main course, and those efforts should have sharpened his speed for the longer race tomorrow. Speed is a useful requisite while racing on the grass.
