Fleet Field of Thirteen Goes in Pessara Purse Thwarted and Tea-Maker to Vie For Favorite Role at Belmont BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 2.— The Pessara Purse, an allowance test of six furlongs, heads tomorrows program at Belmont Park. Thirteen speedsters have been named for this dash, including two sets of entries. Gustav Ring will be represented by a nimble pair in Eagle Eye and Rare Jewel, while Bill Post will saddle a couple of South Americans. Brisket will race for La Pomme Stud and Tocada will carry Howell E. Jacksons silks. Several of the Pessara candidates met in a six-furlong dash here on May 23 in I which none of them showed much while chasing Nathaniel. Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Our John Wm. finished fourth, with Rare Jewel sixth, Mrs. C. O. Iselins Nassau eighth and Brisket and Tocada bringing up the rear. Both of the Argentinians had I speed for a half-mile in this race, then stopped abruptly. T. P. Morgans Thwarted and Mrs. P. A. Clarks Tea-Maker will probably have a large following. Thwarted, who will be ridden by Eddie Arcaro won his last start here cleverly at a mile and a sixteenth, beating a similar band and before that was narrowly beaten by Tea-Maker and the somewhat sensational Up Beat at a mile. Arcaro turned in one of his poorer efforts on that occasion, stubbornly staying in comparatively deep going on the rail to the head of the stretch then coming out to pursue a devious course between horses. Since winning that race, Tea-Maker was beaten off in the Suburban at a mile and a quarter, after having speed for a mile. If that race didnt dull his speed, Mrs. Clarks versatile runner is the one to beat. The Pessara gains some interest from the presence in the entries of the Belgian champion, Bayeux, who will be making his first start in the United States since his ill-fated venture in last years International Gold Cup. After having been injured in the course of his plane trip to this [country, Bayeux was started outside the gate in the International and was turned the wrong way at the break, losing all chance. On his European form, this horse possesses considerable class, but is essentially a router. His race tomorrow may at least indicate his physical condition and suggest whether or not he may be a factor in the handicap division in later races over more suitable distances. The others in the Pessara are Belair Studs Hyblaze, Mrs. Andy Schuttingers Justice, Spring Hill Farms Master Mind and Al-Jo Stables Splash.
