HENRY PAYNE moved in closest jttendance of the pace after a quarter mile, responded to pressure in the drive and outfinished ACKLEY, Tespite bearing in slightly. ACKLEY opened a clear lead soon after the start, was kept along the inside while k.v: setting the pace and held on gamely. MASTER closed stoutly from far off the pace. NED CANRON worked ■ his way up gradually to close with good energy. JOHNNY DIMICK failed to enter serious contention and . pulled up sore. FOX MAN was in tight quarters on the far turn. MIGUELITO flattened out after a mild challenge. GOLDEN GINO was unable to keep up. RED ROB was through early. SPEEDING HOME weakened the final quarter. MUCHO MAS moved between the leaders soon after the start, gained a slight advantage, assumed an inside position entering the stretch and . drew away from HELL BENT under pressure. The latter was sent up fast on the outside to reach the leaders before a quarter mile, continued to press for command nearing the furlong pole, but was not good enough. STRANDED, slow to begin, closed with a rush in the final sixteenth. BAY FLY weakened after staying with the pace for three furlongs. GAY LILT raced evenly. SUFFINTH had no mishap. YELLOW HORNET, steadied while settling into best stride, worked his way up on the inside to challenge the leader nearing the furlong pole, , responded to pressure, drew clear and had enough left to hold WAR AGENT safe. The latter was taken back off the pace and placed under strong restraint to the final quarter, then finished with a belated rush. ALANAY set the pace from the outset, disposed of early opposition, but weakened in the final sixteenth. RAKEMUP lost r: ground in the late stages. STRIDE WELL had no mishap. QUICK RETORT broke alertly, remained within striking distance of the pace under steadying restraint, came to the outside for the drive and rallied to outfinish FIRESONG. The latter disposed of GLOAM after a quarter and was kept on the Inside, but shortened stride and had nothing left to cope with the winner. GLOAM assumed the lead soon after the start, stayed close to the pace after losing command and was under steady pressure to the end. CARTER GIRL had no mishap. V-JET lacked a closing rally. SUNHELIO broke alertly, was kept close to the pace under light urging, came to the outside of the leader entering the stretch, rallied under steady urging and drew out slightly. CHALDSON moved close to the pace after a quarter, continued on gamely under strong pressure in the final furlong, but was not good enough. LUCKY INCIDENT rallied mildly leaving the backstretch, lost ground on the turn, then went evenly. JOE OLSAN was under pressure to dispose of FANCY r ANSWER, maintained the lead until straightened for the drive, then tired slightly. WEATHERCOCK was under a steady drive for the final half, but was too sore going to make up appreciable ground. FANCY ANSWER -was used up forcing the pace. CAPTAIN BOUDOUR assumed command soon after the start, drew into a comfortable lead, saved ground, but was no match for the winner. MULLINGAR closed willingly along the inside. TEDDY TARN, reserved within striking distance of the pace, came between horses when straightened for the drive, responded to stout pressure and outfinished SHINING DEED. The latter drew clear soon after the .start, was under light restraint while setting the pace, came out slightly for the drive and just failed to last. MINUTES moved into contention gradually, came to the outside for the drive and closed with good energy. GOLDEN THORN worked his way up on the inside, obtained clear racing room in the stretch, but was not good enough. DINNER PARTY had no mishap. WAR DELEGATE passed tiring horses. QUATREFOIL was unable to keep up. VINITA REV flattened-out after forcing the pace. PAINTED ARROW tired. OLD SCHOOL was outrun. FEARLESS dropped out of contention soon after the start and bled badly.
