Michigan Notes FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, June 2. Brownell Combs, owner and breeder of Sequence, a probable starter in Saturdays Maple Leaf Stakes, will journey from his Bel Air Farm, Lexington, Ky., for the weekend stake. Leslie Combs II., MRA director and master of Spendthrift Farm, another major Fayette County thoroughbred nursery, also plans to witness the Saturday feature. Jockey Jimmy Duff, a graduate of the Detroit Jockey School, will celebrate his nineteenth birthday anniversary Friday. Duff will be host to his fellow reinsmen at a party. Young Duff, under contract to trainer Harry Trotsek, was born in New-Port, Ky. Dr. Eslie Asbury, whose homebred mare, Brownian, will go postward in the Maple Leaf Stakes on Saturday, sent word that he will be on hand for the filly and mare fixture. Thomas Carr Piatt, master of Crestwood Farm, Lexington, Ky., and Mrs. Piatt returned to their Blue Grass state thorough-: bred nursery after witnessing several days of the local sport. Willard Proctor arrived from Cleveland with High Test and The Farmer, which pair is to race under Proctors own silks. O. Freeman sold the three-year-old gelding Wise Trick to Omar Dutton, of Oklahoma, and the son of Market Wise and Smart Trick has been shipped to Charles Town. Dutton. will train his new acquisition. Jockey Walter Mann packed his tack and departed for Narragansett Park where he plans to free-lance. Jockey James Boucher, veteran reins-man, checked in at the Fair Grounds and has been granted a license. Victor Pence registered Joes Ace after the juvenile colt arrived here from Cleveland. Joes Ace will race here for H. C. Drew, Jr., of Louisville, Ky. Joe Keith, well known Lexington, Ky., sportsman and thoroughbred breeder, will be on hand for the Saturday running of the Maple Leaf Stakes. Merritt Mergler, who conditions the E. P. Taylor thoroughbreds, has signed jockey Don MacAndrew to ride iox his stable.
