American Legion Purse Headlines Omaha Sport Block to Block Heads Field; Heavy Showers Drench Track AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 7; — Due to the failure of the six-furlong Whirl-away Handicap, original Wednesday featured event, to attract a sufficient amount of formidable entrants, racing secretary and handicapper Raleigh Leigh substituted the mile and a sixteenth American Legion Purse. Seven capable middle distance performers, headed by Brown and Gillespies Block to Block, accepted weights under the allowance conditions of the American Legion and, what the test may lack in quantity will be more than compensated for by the. quality of the contestants. The nominal attraction undoubtedly would have had several more contenders had not the racing strip appeared to definitely be in an "off" conditions for tomorrows card. At the time of entries the Omaha sector was covered with heavy showers which promised to prevail throughout the day.
