OFF AT 2:42 EASTERN STANDARD TIME. Start good from stall gate for all but COIFFEUR. Won driving; second and third the same. SWIFT TOWN, away fast, dropped back after the start, then improved position steadily after the first quarter, responded to strong handling through the stretch and, after taking command, withstood YANKEE RAIDER. The latter, outrun during the first half mile, was sent out for the drive and closed willingly under punishment. BRACKET could not better his position when set down in the drive. GERRYS BUD went to the front early, made the pace until inside the stretch, then faltered. COOL JUDGMENT raced evenly under weak handling. BALLYRAG could not keep up. SILVER MINE lacked early speed. COIFFEUR, fractious at the post, unseated her rider, was returned to the paddock for a substitute jockey, then began poorly and lost all chance. TRIBAL II. had brief speed. V. BOMB was through early. LEES SUMMIT, a keen factor from the start, went to the front after three-eighths, then held on gamely under brisk urging to withstand JIMMIE. The latter, away fast and never far back, closed determinedly under punishment, but could not overtake the winner, just missing. BLANK DISMAY, outrun to the stretch, finished fast on the extreme outside. MINTLOCK held on well in a sharp effort and had no excuse. LUCKY CHAMP could not keep up after showing early speed. SPRING FIESTA was outrun. LAROC never was a serious factor. POLAR BATTLE was far back throughout CAROLINA FRANK showed nothing. SPRING THAW had brief speed. KOPES TOY, never far back, went to the front in the stretch and drew clear under mild urging. SPURCHASE steadily improved position to the stretch, was in close quarters nearing the finish, but could not threaten the winner. SWEEP BOLT, forwardly placed from the start, swerved to the inside in the drive and weakened badly during the last sixteenth. RAPID ROBERT began fast, but failed to recover when caught in close quarters nearing the stretch. AL CHEERS engaged SWEEP BOLT to the stretch, but had nothing left for the drive. DOCTOR L. E. was outrun. FLEET FACTOR could not keep up. LUCKY AL showed nothing. DEVILS BREATH could not keep up. BLUE CLOVER was far back throughout. FOURTH RACE 3-4 MILE out of chute. DOVER ROAD, outrun early, was sent to the outside for the stretch run and, responding readily to brisk urging, wore down PUSSY WILLOW fa the last strides. PUSSY WILLOW, a keen factor from the beginning, established a clear lead when settled in the stretch, but was unable to hold the winner and just missed. MAMALOI, far back to the stretch, closed strongly in a sharp effort. SPRING FOLLY could not keep up after showing early speed. EVA T. was outrun. KINDLY MISS began sluggishly and was never a serious contender. FANASH, on the inside throughout, was never dangerous. The latter, in close quarters immediately after the start, responded readily when set down in the drive, but could not reach the. winner. GOLDEN BOLT, away slowly and lacking racing room after the break, made up ground steadily when clear and closed strongly in a sharp effort. LAST SHOW raced evenly to the stretch and finished fast under urging. CONNIES BOY tired after racing prominently to the final furlong. FORAY VINA engaged BANOVINA to the stretch, then gave way. BEA RIGHT, away fast, raced nearest MR. JAY to the stretch, was forced wide by the latter during the drive, but reached the lead near the furlong pole and drew clear when ridden out. SHAKEME, outrun early, saved ground at the stretch turn and finished resolutely in a good effort. BLUE GRIP, slow to begin and outrun to the stretch, closed fast under punishment. MR. JAY went into command soon after the start, drifted out in the drive and, after forcing BEA RIGHT to the outside, tired. TIMELTEL began alertly, but could not keep up. BILL ROSS, never far back and well ridden, raced FERTILE LANDS into defeat after entering the stretch, then held MESCARA safe. The latter, outrun early and forced to take up when blocked nearing the stretch, came fast when clear and was getting to the winner at the finish. FERTILE LANDS, a keen factor from the break, reached the lead approaching the stretch and held on well to the final furlong, then faltered. CID PLAY failed to rally when set down in the drive. REGAL MAID went to the front at the start and made the pace for five furlongs, then weakened. SCOTCH BIM was outrun. FIRST DEGREE could not keep up. Overweight— Mescara, 1 pound.
