Tom Smith Beds Down Division Of Rice Stable at Arlington "ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 7. — Tom Smith, veteran trainer who developed Seabiscuit, Kayak II., Jet Pilot and many other classic stakes winners on the American turf, arrived from New York today with a division of Mrs. Ada L. Rices stable. The other section of the unit is now quartered at Washington Park for the Lincoln Fields meeting and probably will ship here in the near future. The entourage from New York was headed by Admiral Lea and Model Cadet. The latter was victorious in the Washington Park Futurity last year. Others in the shipment were Bows N Knots, Current News, Coming Event, Please Do, Danada Gift, Dashing Don, Demure, Mystery Lady and Party Request. The Washington Park unit of Mrs. Rice is handled by Smiths son, James W., and when they converge at this track they will constitute one of the most powerful stables on the ground. A unit from Hal Price Headleys stable also was among the arrivals today. They came from Lexington, Ky., and are to join forces with Headley main unit here at a later date. Headley arrivals today were Verve, Min, Swan Dive, Piroque, Slicker, Selenite, Thirty Love, Agana and Galoot.
