STEEPLE JACK worked his way up between horses on the backstretch and far turn, was taken to the outside for the drive and wore down ELKHORN. a- The latter established a clear lead quickly, was hard put for the closing quarter and just missed. VERONA O SANDS, reserved for a half, went up between horses and finished resolutely. JOUSTING MATCH, slow to gain u. stride, as usual, closed with a belated rush. SAMMIES IMAGE dropped back on the inside going into the far turn, then moved up gamely in the stretch and faltered. BORN TO WIN broke in a tangle, was blocked on the backstretch and faltered after moving up willingly in the stretch. SCOTLAND YARD showed nothing.
