JULIBEE improved her position steadily, from the outside to wear down INSPIRING in the early stretch and just failed to last. ORIENT, slow to reach his best stride, found racing room on the inside when making his bid and closed with a belated rush. REYNOLDS JR. broke slowly and was rushed into a contending position rounding the turn, but had little left when the real test came. INSPIRING tired from her early efforts. RED BANJO made a mild bid rounding the stretch turn and tired. GOOF OFF was through early. EXCEL LAD was always outrun. PEG TOWN quit to a walk after showino good speed for the first half mile. BUSY WHIRL, hard held while being outrun early, rallied from the outside when roused on the stretch turn to move willingly to the leaders and get up in the closing strides. MAELSTROM improved his position steadily while racing on the outside, was under pressure through the last quarter and, after heading the pacemaker a sixteenth out, could not handle the winner. POSER moved up boldly between horses rounding the turn, displaced MAJOR KAY in the stretch and hung in the closing stages. MAJOR KAY wrested command from the inside in the early stretch, but had little left when the real racing began. BIRDIE LULLEY was through early. ELKRIDGE followed the pace in hand for the first fourteen jumps, responded gamely to urging when roused and, while jumping cleanly, closed with a belated .rush, wearing down TROUGH HILL near the end". The latter, never a great distance back, was bothered early by the riderless horse, but recovered gamely to displace RANK nearing the fourteenth jump and, after drawing into a long lead, had nothing left to hold off the late challenge of the top one. RANK drew into a long lead early while jumping well, but had little left when roused in the late stages. HOMOGENIZE had no apparent mishap in an even performance. POINT BLEU was always far back and, after being eased in the late stages, pulled up decidedly lame.
