Amiga Amiga Never Never Headed Headed in in Turf Turf Bow; Bow; Blue Blue Seal Seal Scores Scores Again Again at at Detroit Detroit Clean Slate Gives Way in Stretch Run Paddock Colorbearer Closes Fast for Half-Length Tally; Checkerhall Also Successful FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 9. — Blue Seal, a five-year-old gelded son of Blue Larkspur and Well Rewarded, carried James Paddocks silks to a mildly surprising victory here today in the Grand Circus Park Purse. Hard hustled through the stretch by jockey Ken Church, the victor closed stoutly and nipped Dearborn Stables Clean Slate by a half-length margin at the end of the six furlongs feature. Just a length back John Kinards Eternal Bomb finished willingly enough to earn the show award, while M. H. VanBergs favored Rose Bed, a recent arrival from Chicago, finished fourth in the field of eight starters. Shouldering 111 pounds, which burden he handled in capable fashion, Blue Seal ran the three-quarters mile over the firm footing in 1:11% to pick up his second straight purse at the Motor City oval. Overlooked in the wagering, despite his recent victory here, the Paddock gelding rewarded those who backed him with a straight pay-off of 6.80. Blue Seal moved up fast after the small field in the Grand Circus Park left the gate in good alignment and he raced nearest Clean Slate until well inside the stretch. Responding readily when Church plied whip and boot during the final drive, the sprinter wore down Clean Slate in a keen duel and appeared ready to increase his advantage when he swept across the finish. Eternal Bomb, outrun early, was sent to the extreme outside for the drive and finished well enough to take third from Rose Bed, who failed to rally when ridden in the final quarter mile. Ideal Weather Prevails Ideal weather conditions and higher temperatures added to the comfort of the 7.776 patrons in the crowd that witnessed the program today at the Motor City track. Henry Forrests Checkerhall, despite his tender Underpinning, scored a handy victory in the six-furlong sixth race, which brought out 11 better grade platers.
