First Issue of Monmouth Condition Book Released MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 9. — Racing secretary John Turner, Jr., has released his condition book covering the opening 12 days of Monmouth Parks 47-day summer race meeting, June 17 through August 10. Richest races in the book are the Salvator Mile, the Select Handicap for three-year-olds at six furlongs and the Regret Handicap for fillies and mares, also a three-quarter mile sprint. All three events are endowed with 0,000 added, and are major preps for important stakes to be decided later in the seaside season. In the new book Monmouth Park continues the ,500 minimum purse adopted at the 1946 inaugural meet and featured at all sessions since then. In over-all money, however, the condition book sets a new purse distribution for the Oceanport track because of the many richer races scheduled for allowance and handicap horses. During the first 12 days no fewer than 43 races are written with no claiming clause, and ranging in distance from five furlongs to a mile and a furlong, attractive to all types of horses. Total purses for the Monmouth Park season will run more than one million dollars during the 47 days of sport, with 95,000 in added money assigned to the 15-stakes schedule. Nominations to these handicaps are to be announced as soon as they are compiled, anu will number all leading thoroughbreds in the East among the line-up of eligibles.
