Amiga Amiga Never Never Headed Headed in in Turf Turf Bow; Bow; Blue Blue Seal Seal Scores Scores Again Again at at Detroit Detroit Combs Homebred Shows High Speed Mahmoud-MissDogwood Filly Runs Five-Eighths in :58% To Defeat Minim Decisively WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., June 9. — Brownell Combs Amiga, a royally-bred aughter of Maumoud — Miss Dogwood, by Bull Dog, looked the part of the best two-year-old filly to show in this area this year when she merely buck-jumped her way to victory against a field of juvenile maidens in the Amanda Purse at five furlongs here this afternoon. Mel Peterson had her away in stride and from there to the finish the result never was in doubt, the official margin being two and one-half lengths. The Amanda was not originally carded as the feature, but the manner in which Amiga raced over the fast racing surface provided the highlight of an afternoon when claiming races were offered in all other events. Mainly because of her breeding and the suspicion that she is a filly of extreme class, she was backed into 6 to 5 favoritism and she justified that confidence in brilliant style. She stepped the distance in :58%, just three-fifths of a second away from the course standard and undoubtedly could have gone much faster had Peterson been forced to ask her for speed at any time of the abbreviated journey. Likely Lassie Candidate Second in the dash was G. D. Smiths Minim, while the Woolford Farms Bleu Fleur was a game-going third. Ten competed in the event. Amiga is an eligible for Saturdays 0,000 Miss America Stakes and if she goes postward, which is extremely doubtful, she will command a great deal of respect. She probably will be pointed for the rich Arlington Lassie Stakes and during the Arlington Park meeting. Amiga is a flashy-looking gray of faultless conformation, although a bit on the small side. Once she swings into stride she is a picture of rhythm and her effort was warmly applauded by the well-pleased gathering, most of whom flocked to her support. The field was away to a splendid start and Amiga which means female friend in Spanish, dashed right to the front. For a time she was pressed by Our Agnes and Killjoy, but she settled down to the task at hand and drew away with consummate ease. Our Agnes attempted to close the gap, but dropped back beaten and then Minim picked up the chase. The latter closed gamely but was under a powerful drive, while Peterson was sitting still during the last eighth of a mile. The scheduled feature of the day was a ,500 claimer and the winner turned .up in Ben Endovinas Outskirts, a filly who Continued on Page Three Amiga Victorious In Her Racing Bow Combs Homebred Runs Five Furlongs in :584/s to Beat Minim by Two and Half Continued from Page One was registering the third time in four starts at this meeting. In the other start she lost her rider after the start. However, she was slightly overlooked, in view of her splendid record, and paid .80. Gene Pederson rushed her to the fore shortly after the start and there she remained and at the finish he had her well within herself. Big Casino followed the pace around the turn, but when he was unable to close any ground he quit cold. Technicolor then closed fairly well and Don Coventry also gained his best stride, but Outskirts had by this time obtained a commanding advantage and from there it was easy. Time for the three-quarters was 1:11%. Rosily Takes Opener Mrs. Emil Denemarks Rosily, a homebred daughter of Raphael H. — Dogrose, was dropped down against very ordinary ,500 platers for the opener and finally found a spot for the second victory of her career. Logan Batcheller had her away on her toes and before entering the stretch she forged to the front and then drew off to score smartly by three and one-half lengths. She was a heavy favorite, paying .40, and raced the six furlongs in 1:11%. Atoka Lad, owned by Mrs. G. H. Emick, prevailed over the ,000 routers in the second, and it was the young apprentice, Leslie Wickel, who was astride the gelding. The winner alternated in setting the pace with Spring Gal and outgamed that filly after a long, hard drive. Atoka Lad and Rosily combined for a 3.00 Daily Double. Ben Fogelsons Mella Valenti came from off the pace to win the one-mile third under the guidance of Tony Skoronski, Chicago rider who has encountered some trouble winning with the frequency that marked his successful Sportsmans Park campaign. Slow to get under way and steadied while Chic Rose vied for the early lead, Skoronski made no attempt to rush the daughter of Isolater early. She made a quick bid coming into the stretch, collared the leaders and then drew clear with definite authority. Time for the distance was 1:38%.
