Burton Closes Downs Entries Early CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 5.— Director of racing Samuel H. McMeekin today congratulated racing secretary and handicapper Fred Burton for the manner in which the members of Burtons staff functioned in the early closing of entries for the Derby Day program. Burton, a stickler for having his entries ready at an early hour, stated that he enjoyed excellent cooperation from horsemen in filling his Saturday card. Members of the press crowded Burtons office after the entries were drawn and gave the Downs official a well-deserved ovation.
