Citation Never for Sale CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 5.— Early in the 1948 season, Citation was being held as an even greater race horse than Man o. War. From Floridas racing" scene came stories that E. O. Stice, of California, had offered owner Warren Wright 50,000 for the colt. The offer failed to arouse any interest. There were numerous horsemen who thought the son of Bull Lea a bargain at that amount. Before the colt had finished his two-year-old season, breeders had approached Wright seeking to breed mares to Citation when his racing days were over. Citation, of course, won the Derby of 1948.
