Y., May 10 UP.— Rookie Roger Bowman pitched the New York Giants to their fourth straight victory and their ninth win in the last 11 starts today, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals, 3 to 2. The Giants, rebounding miraculously from their early spring slump, in which they lost 11 games in a row, staved off a ninth inning threat by the Cardinals in which pinch-hitter Chuck Diering lost a home run when a fan reached out and grabbed the ball in the lower right field stands. He had to settle for a two-bagger, but scored anyway when Peanuts Lowrey brought him around with a single. The Cardinals again were handicapped because three pitchers, Harry Brecheen, Howie Pollet and George Munger, and their star slugger, Stan Musial, were kept in their hotel rooms with influenza. The pitchers and coach Mike Ryba will not be able to make the trip to Cincinnati tonight, and Musial also may have to stay behind. The score by innings: R. H.E.
