; I , John Simpson Roosevelt Arrival With 54 Horses WESTBURY, L. I., N. Y., May 10. — John Simpson, leading driver for the past two years at Roosevelt Raceway, arrived here this week with 54 trotters and pacers, largest stable in current day racing circles. The 32-old-old Chester, S. C, driver-trainer wintered- in Orlando, Fla. Among the two-minute horses in his barn are Hayes Hanover, 1:59%, seven-year-old pacer sired by Billy Direct, and Ferman Hanover, four-year-old pacing gelding with a mark of 1:59%. This time was established by Ferman Hanover as a three-year-old last year in a time trial and stands as the present-day record for geldings of his age. The pacer also racked up a new world record of 2:001/s for three-year-old geldings. The horse is owned by Cleo A. Young of Timmonsville, S. C. QuilJa Hanover, whom Young sold last year to Poplar Hill Farm of Lexington, Ky., raced to a new world record for three-year-old fillies of 4:01% for a two-heat race under Simpsons handling. Other topflight stock which Simpson will send to the races starting with opening night of May 21 at Roosevelt Raceway are Mighty Dexter, Make Way, Madison Hanover, Shady Hanover, Step, Rapid Gallon, Tryhussey, Honor Bright and others.
