Martin was ruled off the Maryland turf for 10 years by the state racing commission here today. His license was revoked and he was denied all privileges of tracks under the boards jurisdiction. Two weeks ago, Martin was sus- pended indefinitely "for conduct detri- mental to the best interests of racing" at Laurel and other tracks. It developed later that six formal charges were placed against him, among them being the offense of betting on mounts other than his own in a Laurel race, and with soliciting bets. The 23-year-old jockey, whose record is marked by frequent suspensions and fines, was charged with having wagered 00 on Shine On in the first race at Laurel on April 10, in which he was astride Librab, which finished second to Infaith, with Shine On third. He also was charged with soliciting bets on Shine On, Teddies Imp, Abstract, War Phar and Keep Watch. The Maryland commission today re- instated jockey Scott Riles, who was ruled off on February 11, 1946, on charges of complicity in fixing races. The license of jockeys agent Charles Land was suspended and he was denied all privileges of the track.
