Salerno After Repeat Win at Suffolk Downs Lawful Looms One Whom Choice Has to Beat in Six-Furlong Test SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 10. — The daily feature events since the opening of the Suffolk Downs meeting this year have been of top variety and proven interesting to an increased attendance. But sooner or later the cheaper grade platers, who are in the majority at most tracks, catch up with the better performers and tomorrow is their day here at this seaside track. The entire program of eight races is made up of claiming races and, strangely enough, only three of the events have attracted full fields. The sixth race on the card will be contested at six furlongs, with 10 members of the ,000 down to ,500 bracket vying for a purse of ,500. Myharriet Stables Salerno, a former stake winner a few years back, displayed winning form in his last start and, off that effort, should be installed a tepid choice. The Questionnaire gelding won m 1:11% over a fast track and it was his only outing of the year. which suggests that trainer Dave Harrison has done a good job in bringing his charge back to* peak form. Devon Stables Lawful, a winner during the past winter in Florida, looms as the one most preferred to give Salerno a battle for top honors in this dash. After showing fair form while finishing second and third at Hialeah Park, the Hoop Jr. colt started a series of dull efforts which netted his owners nothing and now he is back in a class where he may begin to earn some part of his ,000 claiming price for which he was acquired out of that winning race. The others in the dash are Tasso T.. Juana, Alsiral, Jetrose. Mr. Syracuse, Empty Sea, Heath Fire and Bounding Ace. Alsiral won a pair of races in Florida, but is far from being consistent. The only other winner for the current season in the above group is Empty Sea and that victory came back in January at Tropical Park. Tomorrow will mark his tenth start since that time. Mr. Syracuse won a pair of races at Rockingham Park last fall before going into temporary retirement for the winter months. In winning those events, the Cohort gelding was competing against ,500 platers, but it is possible that he has shown his connections enough to warrant the higher placing tomorrow.
