Dodger Home Runs Blast Cubs, 8-4 Hodges and Snider ] Slam Four-Baggers Frisch Uses Five Pitchers In Attempt to Check Bums; McLish Charged With Loss By the United Press The Brooklyn Dodgers buried the Cubs, 8 to 4, today under a home run barrage including a grand slam blow by Duke Snider before a ladies day crowd of 29,069 at Wrigley Field. The victory gave the Dodgers a temporary half game lead over Boston and it left the Cubs three games off the National League pace. Gil Hodges, leading in home runs in both major leagues for the young 1951 season, collected two four base blows, his 10th and 11th of the year, while Jackie Robinson blasted his fifth four bagger. But it was Sniders smashing drive into the right field stands in the seventh which won the game for the visitors. Earlier Gene Hermanski, batting for pitcher Clyde King, had walked and advanced on Cal Abrams single. Then Peewee Reese walked to fill the bases and all tallied on Sniders blow. Hodges second homer accounted for the fifth run of the inning. Newcombe Wild Don Newcombe, Brooklyns starting pitcher, wasnt around at the finish, due to wildness. He issued nine straight balls to walk Jack Cusick and Forrest Burgess, batting for Bob Rush, to start a four run inning for the Cubs in the fifth. Clyde King, credited with his third win of the year against one defeat, relieved Newcombe with the bases filled and a single by Wayne Terwilliger and a triple by Frankie Baumholtz accounted for the Cub tallies. Chicago used five pitchers, including Rush, Turk, Lown, Cal McLish, Bob Kelly and Dutch Leonard. McLish was charged with the loss, his second against one win. The score by innings: R. H.E.
