Sox Defeat Boston, 9 to 7, In 1 1 th on Home Run by Fox BOSTON, Mass., May 15 UP.— Nelson Fox slammed the first major league run of his career with a man on base in the eleventh inning today to give the Chicago White Sox a 9 to 7 victory over the Boston Red Sox in a see-saw eighth inning and went ahead in the ninth. But the Red Sox tied it again in their half of the ninth, forcing the game into overtime. In the eleventh the fourth Boston pitcher, Ray Scarborough, walked Ed Stewart to start the frame. Fox, up next, bunted the first two pitches in attempts to sacrifice. With two strikes on him, however, he was forced to swing away — and he did, for the homer into the right-field stands. The game was part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the American League. Guests of the Red Sox were-30 American Leaguers of the 1901 season headed by Connie Mack, Clark Griffith and Cy Young, who participated in a parade and were introduced before the game.
