Tracks to Pay State Officials SACRAMENTO. Calif., May 15.— Both the stewards and veterinarians on California tracks, although controlled by the state, will continue to be paid by the tracks. This was determined yesterday when the Senate Finance Committee rejected a proposal to put stewards and vets on the state payroll. The committee sliced the 6,747 from the 1951-52 budget which the California Horse Racing Board claimed was needed to pay the two classes of track officials.
