J., May 15. — Joe Gavegnanos Pensava, who was a late withdrawal from the Valley Forge Handicap 10 days ago, will tomor-n row give his admirers an opportunity to judge his worth in the featured one mile and a sixteenth Brigantine Purse, The four-year-old son of Pensive — Stim- bala, at times last year attempted to com-r pete with the best, but he usually weakened in the late stage of his distance races. He appears a vastly improved performer this season but a truer indication will be forth-e coming tomorrow in finding if he is able to handle the formidable opposition lined up against him. Pensava will receive support from Direc- toire, with whom he will race coupled as the Gavegnano entry. The number of rivals is small, but includes T. P. Morgans Crown Me, who is a stake winner and presently racing in excellent form. The last named and Pensava will head the band with as-e signments of 122 pounds, Others are P. T. Connors Elope, a swift filly who may not carry her speed the en- tire distance but who recently gave an improved effort to win a six-furlong fea- ture; H. W. Finchers Danger Ahead, who gave a good accounting to finish fourth in Saturdays Colonial Handicap and will likely set the pace in this race; Woodland Farms Picture Card, a strong rival on paper but who may be in need of further racing before showing his best, and High Ground Stables Reveille, who is not out-n classed but has not been showing his best recently, Pensava attracted considerable attention in easily winning his first race of the season two weeks ago. He ran the six furlongs in a quick 1:11 after having been forced to be in hand while blocked behind horses for a half-mile, and overcoming a considerable lose of ground, swinging extremely wide to take command for the stretch run and reach the finish with six lengths to spare, Directoire is a steady going sort and he won a race last week at a mile and a six- teenth in a swift 1:44% to defeat Atten-;. tion Mark under a claiming price of 0,000. Crown Me won his first race here by defeating Risk A Whirl, who returned to finish a bang-up third to Ferd in the lat- ters record-breaking triumph in the Valley Forge, and then last Saturday defeated members of her own sex by capturing the six-furlong Colonial Handicap. Crown Me, in his last appearance, was closest behind Sun Bahram after setting the pace for six furlongs, and held on well to beat several well-regarded rivals. He will demand strong support and he is decidedly the one to beat.
