Khyber Pass Goes Today In Suffolk Downs Event Ogden Campaigner Clashes With Lady Alexandra and Five Others SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 15. — There may be an abundance of thoroughbreds at Suffolk Downs, but the emphasis is on the cheaper grade or racers. A pair of allowance events scheduled for tomorrows mid-week program went by the boards because of insufficient entries and racing secretary "Eb" Pons had to counter with a mile and a sixteenth test for claim-ers of the ,000 down to ,500 variety as his feature attraction. Surprisingly enough, the so-called feature only attracted seven mediocre middle distance performers. E. B. Ogdens Khyber Pass, a C. V. Whitney cast-off, who has never lived up to his purchase price, heads the line-up in the sixth race. In one start locally this year, the son of Mahmoud — Transit, finished third in a sprint wnich was contested on a muddy racing strip. The seven-year-old gelding managed to win three of his 14 starts last year and may take a new lease on life in tomorrows race. Slated to oppose the Ogden gelding are Trans Egret, Lady Alexandra, Reigh Jane, Big Inch, Lex and Heath Fire. Of this group, Lady Alexandra has the only triumph registered during 1951. At Lincoln Downs, the J. J. Nash -owned Count Fleet filly won three straight against lesser opposition, but must be rated the one to beat. The entire program of nine races is given over to claimers with five sprints at six furlongs dominating the card. The seventh race is a turf event at about a mile, while the remaining two races are at a mile and 70 yards and nine furlongs, respectively.
