j Favor Bernwood Over Quintet In Zev Purse at Downs Track Making First Start Since * His Third in Derby Trial; Good Question Is Choice CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 15. — The six furlongs Zev Purse and the one mile Darb Purse, both of which are to match three-year-olds, will co-feature a splendid program tomorrow at this spacious Central Avenue racing grounds. The sophomore attractions each drew a half dozen entrants and excellent sport is in store for Churchill Downs patrons. The Zev, spotted fourth on the card, undoubtedly will develop into one of the best sprint events presented here this season. Brownell Combs Bernwood, who passed his Kentucky Derby engagement, will be the high weight with 117 pounds under the allowance conditions of the Zev. In the band named to oppose Bernwood are: Thomas Grays Robust, 114; Brown Hotel Stables Fleeterthan, 109; Mrs. E. Johnstons Sales Price, 109; Walmac Farms Adams Off Ox, 111, and William E. Schmidts Holly Sweet, 114 pounds. Robust is to have the saddle services of Kenneth Church, Douglas Dodson is to guide Adams Off Ox, Earl Knapp drew the assignment on Sales Price and Jerry West probably will handle Fleeterthan. Bernwood, a homebred bay son of Bern-borough and Miss Dogwood, has been lightly campaigned, having started but eight times during his juvenile year and i three times thus far in 1951. The Combs 3 colt scored three victories as a two-year-old and was twice second, picking up earnings - of over 7,000. Beaten Narrowly in KJCS Last autumn at the Downs, the Zev Purse e choice was beaten but a head by Pur Sang I in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and also suffered defeat this spring in two Jamaica engagements before his transfer to o the local oval. In the one mile Derby Trial, Bernwood was third past the wire behind ■ Calumet Farms Fanfare and Cary C. Boshamers King Clover but was awarded -i second after being fouled during the e stretch run by the Boshamer colorbearer. • The Darb, sixth race on the mid-week bill, undoubtedly will prove interesting as s the members of the small overnight field appear rather evenly matched. Mrs. Frederick Sharpes Kings Hope, a good stakes s winner last year, is to again try conclusions s with Henry Forrests Good Question. In the recently-decided six-furlong Chicle • Purse, Good Question emerged the victor, J While Fleeterthan, who is to go in the Zev, ran second and Kings Hope wound up p third. Good Question is the early favorite for the eight-furlong number, but Kings Hope surely will not lack for supporters and the return engagement between the pair is attracting . considerable attention from local tl turfmen. Young Johnny Turner is to have the mount on the Forrest representative, ;, but trainer Sharpe hadnt named a rider r for his charge at a late hour today.
