Select Handicap Field Shaping Up at Monmouth General Staff to Be Starting Topweight in Week-End Stake MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 20. — A small, but if the pun may be excused, "select" field of three -year -olds are expected to accept the issue in next Saturdays renewal of the 0,000 added i Select Handicap. While 42 sophomores s were nominated for the local six furlongs s fixture, the number of probable starters has narrowed down to a mere eight or r nine, although some of the lesser lights s may brave the tempest and drop into the 2 ranks at entry time. The decision to retain Repetoire in Delaware for the Kent Handicap will leave the e top impost to Larry S. MacPhails General 1 Staff. He is gifted with a generous turn i of early speed and, despite the assignment t of 121 pounds, figures to be a tough one e to beat. He finished third to Battlefield i and Nullify at six furlongs in his last start t at Belmont Park and he has-an impressive record stretching back to his early y two-year-old campaign. Mrs. D. W. Hickeys Buzzing Bee lost t some caste when defeated here by the e filly Top Level, but with that race as a tightener he could show better stamina. i. This Jersey-bred should have a good d chance for a portion of the money under r a weight of 116 pounds. Word from New York indicates that i s s r s 2 e 1 i t e i t y t e a i. d r Greentree Stables Northern Star, 114 pounds, is another definite starter. He fin-3 ished in a dead-heat with Roman Fair in his last, and will meet the same one in the Select. Roman Fair also will carry 114 pounds in the renewal of their private feud. Tenure, 112, who gave a poor effort in his race here, and the recently arrived Brookmeade Stable representative, Blue Helmet, with 110, could add interest to the proceedings. Alvin Untermyers Seaflash, a Halcyon gelding who equaled the Pimlico track record winning the first start of his career this spring, is somewhat of an un-- known quantity. He gets in with 107 pounds and is en route here from Delaware Park to make his appearance, The Select is the first major test of the young Monmouth Park meeting for three-a year-olds. Later the sophomores will meet in the mile and a sixteenth 0,000 added Lamplighter. Then they will take up the challenge in the 5,000 added Choice Stakes at a mile and a quarter, to be re-t newed on August 4.
