Hushaby Baby Storming Winner Over Mohduma Latter Gives Up Three Lengths Lead in Late Stretch at Belmont BELMONT PARX Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 16.— Cain Hoy Stables Hushaby Baby stormed down the outside at the finish of the featured Creole Maid Purse today to score by a-length over George D. Wideners Mohduma, who had appeared to have the race won at the furlong pole. Four lengths farther back came Joe W. Browns Wonderful You, who saved third money by a scant nose from Brookmeade Stables Harlem Maid. C. Mahlon Klines favored Brechin stopped badly after setting the pace for three-quarters, and finished tenth in the field of 13 sophomore fillies. Ray York, who is riding in fine form, piloted Hushaby Baby, who paid 5.90 and-stepped the mile in 1:38% over a fast track, but racing against a strong wind for half the journey. A crowd of 20,700 turned out in windy, but otherwise pleasant weather. Brechin took command a few strides after the start of the Creole Maid, while Hushaby " Baby dropped back to last place. In the run down the backstretch, Brechin, Lancaster Lady, Ruddy Belle and Ampola raced as a group in the lead, while Hushaby Baby and Mohduma gradually worked their way into contention. Brechin cirew away to a daylight lead rounding the far turn, with Lancaster Lady and Ruddy Belle still closest in pursuit, while Mohduma surged up with a powerful rush on the outside, followed by Hushaby Baby. The leaders stopped abruptly as they straightened away for the run home and Mohduma swept past them to open up a three-length lead coming to the eighth pole. Hushaby Baby had been unable to match Mohdumas move, but York kept driving on the daughter of Questionnaire and began to gain rapidly in the crucial yards. Mohduma tired badly at the end and Hushaby Baby charged past to triumph going away. Wonderful You, who had come into contention on the inside nearing the head of the stretch, took out a little and found racing room between horses, but lacked the punch of the leaders, and barely lasted to save the show from Harlem Maid, who finished very well.
