Hierapolis Makes Good In Toast of Town Purse Heavily Backed Triple Time Next To Lowe Sophomore at Suffolk SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 16.— Ralph Lowes Hierapolis, a three-year-old son of Hierocles, out of Spring Quest, has been unable to get a winning race since early in January, but the colt was in good form today as he sped to a three and a half lengths triumph in the featured Toast of the Town Purse here. Second in the six-furlong dash, exclusively for sophomores, was the heavily backed Triple Time, coupled in the wagering with Inlet Miss as the Mrs. B. F. Lister entry. Another half length back, A. W. Halls Poopcha, the pacemaker, saved the minor award in the field of nine starters. Ed Sullivan, in whose honor the feature was named, witnessed the running of the race from the winners circle in company with Judge John C. Pappas, president of Suffolk Downs, and Lou Smith, prexy at neighboring Rockingham Park. After the result was official, Sullivan presented a silver piece to trainer Johnny Dupuy, who acted in the absence of owner Lowe. Ridden by Jimmy Davern, Hierapolis completed the sprint in 1:12 over a fast track. The few among the 10,805 who wagered on the Lowe colt received a tidy 6.80. Sharing the limelight here today were jockeys Harold Keene an4 Darrell Madden, who are dueling lor local honors. Each had a double through" the first six events. Madden had a swift ride in the fourth race when he piloted Fred W. Hoopers Eddie Sue to a hollow victory over seven juvenile rivals. The homebred daughter of Education — Wise Sue was timed the four and a half furlongs in :53 flat to equal a track mark which was set by Eternal Bull back in 1941.
