VELVET BOUND, never far back, responded ;to brisk urging entering the stretch and wore down FAIR PORTER during the late stages. FAIR PORTER, prominent from the start while racing on the outside, held on willingly during the stretch run and easily was best of the others. SUN iDOL BOY held a clear lead nearing the furlong marker, then faltered. FLATBUSH lacked the necessary rally. ARTHUR ELROD was always outrun. FIGHTING MARGE quit. ROMAN ROAD raced wide. The latter made the pace to the stretch "under steady rating and held on tenaciously thereafter, just missing. JIMMY VINCENT closed with good courage in a sharp effort. IAMA DUKE failed to respond to urging during the late stages. BREAK THRU saved ground to no avail. SKYRAIDING was outrun. FRANKIE D. tired, in the going. PAJARA began slowly. MARBLE ANN, always within striking distance, came to the outside for the stretch run, was impeded repeatedly by CHATALLE during the late stages, but was up in the concluding strides to outgame the latter when subjected to brisk urging. CHATALLE drifted out, interfered with the winner during the stretch run and was unable to hold the latter when unable to be sternly persevered with. CHALLESTAR moved up menacingly entering the stretch, then weakened. MELANIE raced evenly from the three-furlong marker to the stands without mishap. ENGLISH STAR had no apparent mishap. BROWN ARIEL, a sharp factor from the beginning, disposed of SPEEDY JET midway of the final furlong and continued on gamely thereafter when fully extended. SPEEDY JET raced NICKIES BOY into defeat to assume command entering the stretch, but was unable to withstand the winner when shaken for the ultimate test. NICKIES BOY, much used early, had little left. SUDURA was never dangerous. BLAST OROSES never threatened. GIN CHAMP quit. BARBARA L. refused to extend herself in the heavy underfooting.
