Limit Field Goes In Toledo Gold Cup Gray mar Royal Seen Choice In Final Feature of Highly Successful Ft. Miami Meet By TOMMY MULLIGAN Staff Correspondent FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 16, — The highly successful 25-day meeting conducted by the Toledo Jockey Club will come to a close here tomorrow evening. The local plant experienced a gratifying response, both in attendance and mutuel handle. An increased purse policy kept many of the better performers on the grounds for the entire session. Edwin T. Keller, general manager at the Maumee plant, and his associates, expressed their appreciation of the publics response to the high standard of the sport and said everything possible would be done to enhance the .appearance of the course in preparation for the fall meeting. The comfort and convenience of the patrons will be the main objective at this oval. Luther Henderson Van Zandt has done a remarkable job here, with the entries closing on time and not one single extra race was carded during the 25-day session. Highlighting the star-studded get-away day program is the Toledo Gold Cup, which will carry a ,500 purse, the largest purse of the session. This is a handicap for sophomores and will be contested at the marathon distance of one and five-eighths miles and is the fnal race on the program Saturday. Only Ten Will Start Those named are such prominent campaigners as L. E. Works Reminisce, the Top Stables Whipall, F. D. McBrides Panadero, Mrs. R. I. Mathews"Royal Carlos, J. P. Flynns Rocky Play, O. D. Stevens North Shore, Mrs. B. Schlossers The Maid, A. Sarmentos Prancing Ted, T. Darrus Limehill, F. Nadalines Graymar Royal, Mrs. G. Robinsons Kels Love, A. T. Taylors Sea Level, Sharp. and Dorfmans Barbers Hill, A. Hunters Thunder, F. Smiths Black Pepper and the Beth Page Studs Uranium. There will be a half dozen scratches in the morning as only 10 are-permitted to start but the eagerness of horsemen to run their charges in this rich pot is a healthy sign. A total of 41 were named in the original entries for the Toledo Gold Cup. Graymar Royal, an invader from the Cleveland area, appears a shade the best of the headliner entrants and may make good for the large number of patrons expected to support him in the wagering. The veteran Fanar gelding registered a victory at Cranwood Park a week ago and has been training-satisfactorily since his arrival at this course. He racked up five wins last year and fancies the marathon route. Rocky Play, who has raced consistently at the Fort Miami meeting,, will be seeking his fourth victory here arid the son of Head Play should be in* the thick of contention tomorrow, while Kels Love, who last performed at Lincoln Downs, merits consideration on the basis of her three winning essays at Sunshine Park last winter before her campaign in Rhode Island. Prancing Ted and North Shore may also be stout contenders. The former whipped a competent band of routers recently at-the same distance as tomorrows affray, and the latter won this past winter at Gulfstream Park in Florida against ,500 claiming company. Whipall captured the Tom Worland Purse at two miles at Beulah Park last fall, establishing a new track record at that course for the distance and the hard-hitting son of Best Seller will probably be running freely when some of his opponents are staggering in the late~stages. Should an upset occur, either of the others could provide it in this gruelling test of stamina.
