Judge MacPhail Yearling Grand Champion Colt Son of Grand Slam Gets Honors At Maryland Horse Breeders Show PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 17.— Larry S. MacPhails chestnut colt by Grand Slam-Belle JSquipe Thursday morning was judged the grand champion of the 18th annual yearling show presented by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association on the lawn of the Pimlico old clubhouse. The colt competed in the class for colts, foaled in Maryland, the produce of mares covered in Maryland. The show was well attended and was held under clear skies. Other winners were: Main Stay, a colt by Peterski-Skysail, owned by Stuart S. Janney; bay filly by Discovery-Banyan, owned by MacPhail, and brown filly by Boxthorn — Monte Rio, owned by Boxthorn Farms. • In a special class for Maryland stallions who were represented in* the show, Alfred G. Vanderbilts Discovery earned top position through the showing of his get . For showing the grand champion, MacPhail received the Henry L. Straus Memorial challenge trophy, which must be . won three times to become his permanent possession. The reserve champion in todays show was Stuart S. Janney s Main Stay. The amateur judging contest which is held in conjunction with the show was won by E. T. Chewning and Lynne CarrolC * a pair of Marylanders.
