Jones Pleased With Success Of Stallion Royal Gem II. GOSHEN, Ky., May 17. — Warner L. Jones, Jr., is highly pleased with Royal Gem II., the syndicated stallion that stands at his Hermitage Farm here. Although the Australian horses first •crop just came to the races this year, two of them competed in the recent Juvenile Stakes at Belmont. He was the only first season sire represented in the event. Dark Star, during the winter captured the Hia-leah Juvenile .Stakes, wound up third in the New York race, while Royal Bay Gem finished unplaced. But the latter came back to score in his next start. Jockey Johnny Longden, who rode Down Under, has said Royal Gem U. is the best stallion to leave Australia in many years. Jones, seller of Dark Star and Royal Bay Gem last year at the Keeneland Sales, will offer a full brother of • Royal Bay Gem and a full sister of Dark Star this summer at the Lexington yearling auctions.
