Plan Tournament to Produce Interim7 Featherweight King WASHINGTON, D. C, May 17 UP. — The National Boxing Association announced today an international tournament to produce an "interim" .featherweight champion while Sandy Saddler is in the service. Tied in with the NBA elimination tournament is a side request asking those who enter the touranament to agree that they will not fight exclusively for one promoter. This would prevent the champion from being tied up as the International Boxing Club has tied up most world titleholders. Under the plan announced today, the British Board of Boxing Control will sponsor a fight to determine the European champion. The NBA will run a series of eliminations to produce a "champion of the Americas." The two then will meet for the interim championship. NBA commissioner Abe J. Greene said the tournament "is in no way intended to jeopardize Saddler as champion as he will be accorded the NBAs every protection while he is in uniform. "But the NBA does not want the 126-pound division to stagnate, and the best way to prevent that is by widespread competition."
