► — Coaching Club American Oaks Top Belmont Stake This Week * Real Delight Strong Choice i In Saturday Test; Name Nine For Master Bid Purse Today BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 17. — With such rich distractions as the Kentucky Derby and Preakness now a matter of history, eastern racing devotees can now direct their full attention on the racing at Belmont Park. Three stakes are on the schedule for the coming week at the spacious Westchester Racing Association course. On Wednesday, a crack field of sprinters is slated to meet in the 5,000 Roseben Handicap at seven furlongs. The following day, the better steeplechasers vie in the ,500 Corinthian Handicap at about two miles. On Saturday, the three-year-old fillies come together in the most significant race for that division on the American turf, the 0,000 Coaching Club American Oaks at a mile and three furlongs, in which Calumet Farms Real De-. light looms a short-priced favorite. The week starts rather slowly, with Mondays feature being the ,500 Master Bid Purse, a test for three-year-olds at six furlongs. This dash has attracted a field of nine undistinguished sophomores, including Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Constantin, Jr.s Do Report and Nimble Tox, who will race as an entry. The opposition is composed of Mrs. Ben F. Whitakers Hitex, Mrs. M. F. Drinkhouses Duke Fanelli, G. M. Humphreys Hummy, C. H. Johannsen, Jr.s Heap Big Chief, Gustave Rings Prize Ring, Osmer S. Demings Dr. Rees and Woolford Farms True Pattern. Raced Unplaced in Swift Do Report and Nimble Fox raced un-s placed in different divisions of the Swift Stakes last out, while True Pattern finished a couple of lengths in front of Nimble Fox, despite tiring after setting a fairly swift pace. Duke Fanelli won his last start here in similar company, while TIitex was a tiring second to Suggested in a sprint at Jamaica. Prize Ring showed speed and class last year, but failed to grow much over the winter. Heap Big Chief forced a sizzling pace in the fastest mile and a sixteenth race of the meeting on Tuesday and will have the services of Eddie Arcaro, which may make him the favorite. George D. Wideners Battlefield and Addison Stables Arise are the topweights in the Roseben with 126. and 123 pounds* respectively. They are engaged in todays longer and richer Metropolitan Mile and it is doubtful if either goes back for more on Wednesday, though there are no penalties attached to a victory in the "Met." Palatine Stables Woodchuck, a consistent and hard-hitting sprinter, is the more likely starting topweight with 122 pounds, followed by F. Ambrose Clarks popular veteran, Tea-Maker, with 120. Mill River Stables Big Dipper H., champion English juvenile of 1950, gets in with 119, and is making his local debut in todays seventh race. Dark Peter to Carry 113 Other possibilities in the Roseben include Harborvale Stables Dark Peter, the surprise winner of the Toboggan, who picks up five pounds over that speedy journey to carry 113; Woolford Farms veteran Delegate, A. G. Vanderbilts surprising First Glance, Hal Price Headleys Jumbo and Greentree Stables Northern Star, 112 each. Mrs. dgden Phipps Oedipus, steeplechase champion of 1951, is eligible to. the Corinthian, but it is not known just when this brilliant jumper will return to action. More likely candidates for the Corinthian include Brookmeade Stables His Boots, A. Edward Masters Titien II., James F. Mc-Hughs Jam, winner of the International and Appleton, Montpeliers Hampton Roads, F. Ambrose Clarks Lone Fisherman and G. H. "Pete" Bostwicks Palaja. Real Delight comes to the Coaching Club American Oaks with victories in the Kentucky Oaks and Pimlicos Black-Eyed Susan, as well as a suspicion that she may be at least as good as her Derby-winning stablemate, Hill Gail. She has demonstrated a vast superiority over most of those of her age and sex and since the Oaks is at level weights of 121 pounds, not many are expected to oppose her. Cain Hoy Stables Hushaby Baby, a winner yesterday; Mrs. R. A. Firestones Petitpoint, Walter M. Jeffords Lily White, Foxcatcher Farms Faberose and White Hall Plantations Dinewisely seem the most likely opponents. Maine Chance Farms Rose Jet, juvenile filly champion last season, is not expected to be ready for this searching test. I
