SMU Promotes Grid Coaches DALLAS, Tex., May 17 UP. — Southern Methodist athletic director Matty Bell today announced two promotions in his football coaching staff and the hiring of Frank Payne, a former SMU backfield star, as an assistant freshman coach. Herman Morgan, who has tutored SMUs unbeaten freshmen teams the past two years, was made a member of the varsity staff under head coach Rusty Russell, and Tom Dean was upped from assistant to head freshman coach.
