River Downs Cards Nine Races Wednesday and Saturdays CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 17. — Racing director Henry Green today announced that River Downs will stage nine races on Wednesdays, Saturdays and holidays throughout the 44-day meeting that opens on Memorial Day. The management in adopting this new policy stated that it would afford the patrons an opportunity of witnessing more of the sport and at the same time with the running of the races on scheduled time daily, would allow the fans to be on their way home to a hot dinner not later than 6 p. m. Track superintendent Thurman Panburn has whipped the track into excellent condition and while it will be a trifle faster than last year, horsemen on the .grounds pronounce it one of the safest hereabouts. Seventeen handicaps will be decided during the meeting, highlighted by the running of the 1,000 River Downs Championship, for three-year-olds and upward at a mile and a sixteenth. This race had its inception in 195.0 for a ,000 purse and the management has increased it yearly and will continue to raise it until it is one of the outstanding races in the Midwest.
