Miss Connolly Reaches Finals In English Net Championships SURBITON, England, May 29 UP. TJ. S. tennis champion Maureen Connolly, of San Diego, Calif., reached the finals of her first European tournament today, when she beat Thelma Long of Australia, 10-8, 6-1 in the semi-final of the Surrey grass court championships. A sensational upset appeared to be building up when Mrs. Long led 3-1 and later was within two points of winning the first set at 7-5, attacking Miss Connollys forehand and following her shot up to the net. It was at these critical stages that the 17-year-old American girl revealed her fighting spirit. She hit the ball harder than ever, forcing her foe back to the baseline and then scoring with beautiful drop shots. She also displayed better volleying than she has shown here hitherto.
