Intermittent flurries of rain fell during the feature but failed to dull the track which was termed fast. Those who backed Pinocchio received a tidy 4.00. Gene Pederson hustled Dynastic out of the chutja and took over as the pacemaker before the field traveled a quarter. Turnbull was content to allow Pinocchio to remain in the runner-up spot. Nola Hash was next in line ahead of Im Sandy and Shadows Imp, who were racing as a team. Passing the quarter pole, Pinocchio" was far enough back of the leader and clear of the onrushing field to swing slightly off the ;rail and by the tune he had straightened away for the drive, the gelding was abreast Dynastic for the lead. Turnbull stroked him a couple of times with the whip and the ultimate winner gradually edged away.
