Lincoln Fields Notebook By J. J. MURPHY HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., May 29. The Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau crew started marking horses at Hawthorne today un der the supervision of Al Parkel. Equipment has been set up in the stable area and horsemen are being requested to contact Parkel or Al Wells in the racing secretarys office as regards the time they would like to have their thoroughbreds tattooed. The crew will remafn for several days. Joe Bollero, who trains for H. J. OShea, of Faraway Farms, reports that three of the latters mares have foaled at Leslie Combs Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky. The Australian stallions, Berhborough and Shannon n. are the sires of two of the colts. .Owner B. W. Lahdy, whose horses have had considerable success both here and at Sportsmans Park, has, through his trainer, Elmer Kalensky, closed a deal for the purchase of Red Speed, a two-year-old gelding now in California. The youngster, winner of his only start, is a son of Count Speed, the North American mile and sixteenth record-holder, and was bought from Mrs. John D. Hertz. Red Speed will be flown to Chicago over the week-end. He is out of the mart Smart Daughter. . .Norman Bouchard hag taken second call on the services of, apprentice John Heckmann, who is second leading rider at this meeting. . .Roy Wal-dron has engaged the services of jockey Job Dean Jessop for the Miss America Stakes to he run here June 7. Jessop will ride either Gifted Gal or Orofino, both of whom are owned by Clifford Mooers, for whom Waldron trains. Apprentice Jack Arterburn, who recently won the first race of his career, suffered facial lacerations when thrown from a horse he was exercising at Sportsmans Park this morning and canceled his mounts for the afternoon. . .Exercise boy Eddie Litzenberg sustained a dislocated shoulder when one of his mounts fell with him during: the training period . . . Jockey Palmer Domenico canceled his mounts for Thursday due to an attack of Virus, . Mike Ryan, who has charge of the numbers in the jockeys quarters, suffered a stroke Thursday morning and was taken to Bines Veterans Hospital, Hines, 111 . . Jockey Doug Dodson, who has been riding in good form here, may do some piloting for the Calumet Farm stable during the Arlington and Washington Park meetings. Dodson rode, for Calumet a few years ago . . . Stuyvesant Peabody Jr., chairman of the Illinois Racing Board, will present the trophy to the winner of the Peabody Memorial Stakes. Trainer John Grzyb was asked why he always rode Tony Skoronski on his horses. "Myr horses understand only Polish, and Tony is the only jockey who speaks the language," said John... If we have a few days of sunshine "we may see a few turf races before, the end. of the meeting... Three two-year-olds were claimed put of an eight-horse race recently. MURPHY Continued from Page Three Maxie Rosenbloom was tendered a dinner at Gibby Kaplans before retiring from the cast of the Chicago company of Guys and Dolls. . .Trainer Bert A. Griswold is in from Louisville with four horses, the property of H. N. Eads. . .El Pair Me and Battle H., owned by A. E. Harper, arrived from Beulah Park and will be trained by Jess Byrd. Owner Harper is visiting here, coming from his. Oklahoma City home ... The veteran turfman E. E. Major, Sr. is ill in the Fort Scott, Kansas, hospital and would enjoy hearing from old friends . . . Also hospitalized is owner L. J. Hol-Ienbach, who is confined to a Louisville hospital. His horses are trained by Robert Mattingly. Incidentally, William Veene-man, another of Matthiglys patrons, is in the same institution. . .The veteran Chicago turfman, John Marsch, is reported to be improved in health and will be out to the races when the weather improves. . .Benjamin Lindheimer, head of Arlington and Washington, is also gaining in health Twelve horses, the property of the Marygene Farm of Wiggins, Miss., checked into Hawthorne in charge of trainer Carlos Hernandez. The stable is owned by Eugene Vasen and the star is Brown Booter, who was purchased for 2,000 in Florida during the winter . . .Tommy Hunt, veteran valet and onetime jockey, recently suffered a heart attack and is confined to his quarters in Chicago... B. C. Kelley left for River Downs with the horses in his care . .Joe Bollero has sent the three-year-old filly Honey Kisty-to Detroit, where she will be taken over by her owner, Clarence Hart-wick. . .Stanley Hazzard will ship 11 head to Monmouth Park next week. Heading the list will be the good three-year-old Sandtop. Dave Paper, St. Paul, Minn., industralist, and sportsman, checked in from that city with several friends to witness the running of the Peabody Memorial. Hopes to see the imprbved three-year-old Dance Nsing, of which he is part owner, turn in a good effort. . .Cliff Lussky, president of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Breeders Association, is in from Louisville. His "filly, Tuonine, a clever winner here Wednesday, is being pointed for the Miss America Stakes... Clifford C. Ware, owner of the Circle Bar Ranch, is visiting from his home in Dighton, Kans Mrs. Laura Birr, who has a number of runners here in charge of E. B. Carpenter, arrived from her Indianapolis, Ind., home for the running of the Peabody Memorial Dr. Harry Lindy, vice president of the Michigan division of the HBPA, is in from his home in Detroit... L. R. "Riley" Allison, one of the owners of the Peabody eligibles, Dark Count and Marcador, arrived from Alamagordo, N. M., with a party of three. They will remain over the weekend.
