Fort Salonga Staunch Favorite In Delaware Parks Christiana Defends Five-Race Winning Streak Against Navy Page, Platan, Tribe, Isasmoothie By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 29. Twelve of the classiest two-year-bid colts and geldings in the area have been entered overnight to compete in the 15th running of the 0,000 added Christiana Stakes, a dash of five furlongs which features the Memorial Day program at Delaware Park. Heading the field is S. P. Steck-lers Port Salonga, winner of his last five races, including the William Penn and Juvenile Stakes. Matching speed with the Steckler ace will be the following: Brookfield Farms Isasmoothie, Do-Ra-Mi Stables Game Gene, Vera S. Braggs Tribe, E. P. Taylors Navy Page, George D. Wideners Platan, Walter A. Edgars Prince Dare, MiURiver Stables Malahide, Rolling Plains Stables Moby Dick, G. E. Curtis Tubulcain, Mrs. R. H. Heighes Lunar Park, and W. G. Loews Centime. Port Salonga has done just about every thing asked of him in recent weeks and through five victories in nine starts has garnered 1,700 in purse monies. His most recent success was in Belmonts Juvenile and he was timed in :58 for five furlongs down the chute. His regular rider, Sam Boulmetis, is currently serving a suspension and a rider has not as yet been obtained. Canadian-Owned Representative Ah unbeaten youngster in the Christiana is Navy Pagej a son of War Admiral and Our Page, who scored a galloping five-length victory in his only .appearance prior to becoming a victim of the: coughing epidemic which hit .Maryland. A grand-looking youngster, this Canadian-owned fellow has trained splendidly and is as fit" as hands can make him. Pete McLean will do the xiding. Another who scored a galloping five-length victory in, his last is Isasmoothie, a son" of Rosemont. This one has raced but twice and has impressed as a shifty sort. He will have the saddle seryides of Nick Shuk, a very proficient veteran who should see considerable local action. Tribe, a swift Apache colt, won in :5lYs down the wfdener chute in his last appearance after finishing second in five consecutive endeavors, twice behind "Port Salonga. He will be ridden by Bennie Green. Another promising colt entered is Platan, a son of Platter-Tatanne, thus a half-brother to Lucky Dray, Wideners handicap ace of several seasons back. In three public appearances, Platan has. been third and twice first past the line, only .to be disqualified from first money on one occasion. His last effort was a winning one and he was: timed four and a half furlongs in :53y5 down the chute. Game Gene is another unbeaten juvenile in the Christiana, haying won both of his races in Florida prior to being sidelined for a spell. His second victory came in the Florida Breeders Stakes, in which he completely outclassed his opposition. Winner of two races and second in two more during his four-race campaign is Centime, a Pavot colt. He was second to Count Trim in his last and comes to the race well recommended, with Dave Gorman scheduled for the saddle- chore. The others seem a bit overmatched, but, being only juveniles, they must rate consideration. Tubulcain was a 10-length winner of his last at Bel Air, while Lunar Park was a double winner during the Maryland season. Malahide has scored in one of his five starts, while Moby Dick and Prince Dare are maidens.
