-4 Fairmount Offers Afternoon Racing Hard Toab Shoulders 120 In Handicap; Card Sharp And Ruth red Draw Support By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 29. The Decoration Day Handicap, first of a series of handicaps that will be offered here this season, drew a well-matched field of eight. This event is over the mile and one-sixteenth distance and carries a ,000 purse, on the first afternoon program of the meeting. Included in the eight named to face starter MacMil-lan are two winners at the meeting. Both Hard Toab and Card Sharp accounted for their firststarts here this meeting. Top impost of 120 pounds has been assigned to Hard Toab, from the R. Chudej stable, and from the way he came from behind to score in a six-furlong dash, he looms the one to beat. The four-year-old son of Professor Lee and- Semi Circle is a little slow to settle into his best stride but, once he gathers himself together he really unfolds speed. In his winning race here, he got up in the last few strides to defeat Fabulous South. As he is only picking up an additional pound for this test over the longer route, he appears best of this field. Making his first start here this season and most probable threat for the winner share of the Memorial Day feature is Mrs. E. Mucklers Ruthred, who has an abundance of early foot. Although he has been sent over the shorter distances this spring, he had some very impressive races at the longer routes here last year. With 116 pounds up and taking his class into consideration, he appears the main contender at a mile and one-sixteenth. Market Tip Near Peak Form Market Tip, owned by Mrs. T. M. Pruett, gets in with 110 pounds and although he has not won this year, he appears close to peak form. Since coming to Fairmount this spring, the Pruett horse has turned in several impressive morning trials, his last prep being a three-eighths trial in which he went in :36, handily. C. Milroys Card Sharp, a winner first time out here" at a mile and a sixteenth, by the wide margin of three and one-half lengths over such routers as Milo and and Boston Bull, figures to be the one of the remainder that will be the toughest opposition in the main attraction. Card Sharp had 113 pounds up in his winning race last Saturday, and taking off seven pounds for this test looms as a formidable foe. Card Sharp is by the outstanding sire, Count Fleet, and is at home over the distance affairs. Others slated to parade postward in the Decoration Day Handicap are Leo-P. McL., from the stable of J. Hejna, with 109 pounds up; Intrusive, owned by Mrs. M. V. Hawley, 106; Milo, from the stable of E. R. Toon, and Tommy Alan, owned by P. R. Byrum and Son, which finished second in his only start thus far at the meeting. Of the nine races carded for the first afternoon program at this meeting, there will be a dash of four and one-half furlongs for maiden two-year-olds in which eight were named to compete. For the most part, the race is made up of first-time starters. A purse of ,000 is offered. Those that will be battling it out to graduate into the winners ranks are Al T., Miss Wabash, Goldy Wise, Bright Imp, Naomi, Easy Dell, Booral and Second Trip.
